How to Start a Career with Freelancing ?

Step 1: Get the Right Equipment

You make terrible choices and decisions when you are desperate. And that's why I always advise you not to start working independently to earn money fast.

I often get questions from freelancers who ask me if I can work with a smartphone. The quick answer is that it doesn't exist. At least not the ones worth doing.

Smartphone applications are limited in features. You need a computer to run the software needed to do the job right and deliver great results.

So before you go ahead and think about working online, get a laptop or even an old computer would do the trick.

Also, be sure to read the suggestions in the articles below before moving on.

Step 2: Find a Marketable Skill

The next and most important step is to find a skill that you can offer as a service.

This can be something as simple as transcribing a podcast or something advanced, such as developing a mobile application. Whatever it is, the key to winning in freelancing is to get a skill to be good at and have enough market need.

For example, if you're good at drawing sketches or designing product packaging, go to a freelance market like UpWork or Freelancer and see if there are places for that type of work.

If there are enough jobs on these sites for the skill you are good at, then you have gotten the gold.

Step 3: Polish your skills

Once you find a marketable job, you should make sure that you can offer it as a service. You just have to be more distinguishing with the help you render moving other people.

For example, suppose you want to be a freelance writer for health and wellness blogs. This category has a good demand. You also have writing experience about it in school or college.

However, this does not mean that you can write blog posts for your online audience. Blogs and online publications use very differently writing and formatting styles for articles. Mainly to attract the general public.

So now you need to learn how to write blog posts for your online audience. Learn how to use WordPress. How to make graphics for articles. And other.

It's the same for any other independent skill out there. You can't jump straight without even trying to learn the basics. First, you need to polish your skills.

Read books, subscribe to YouTube channels and blogs related to your skills and industry.

Also, taking online courses is the most effective way to learn and polish a skill properly. See the links below for recommendations.

Developing a skill from scratch takes time. So be patient and keep learning and preparing. It could take weeks, months, or years. Just keep it.

Step 4: Build Your Reputation

The ability to prove your skills and work will determine whether or not you will be a successful professional.

If you can't prove to your customers that you are good at what you do, they will never hire you.

If you are a writer, you should have articles published on popular blogs. If you are a graphic designer, you should be able to indicate a brand and say that you designed their logo. If you are a web designer, you must be able to send a link to a website that you have designed.

Do a free job at the beginning, if necessary. Contact blogs that accept guest posts. Make a conceptual design paper. Whatever it is, act on creating your reputation.

Step 5: Create a Portfolio

When you start building your reputation, make sure you also create a portfolio to bring all your published / live work in one place.

A portfolio can be a website or a web page where you expose all your work.

For example, if you are a graphic designer, you can create a portfolio page on a site like Behance to present all your drawings. This way, when you contact a client, you can simply provide them with a link to your portfolio to test your skills.

Make sure you include the best thing in your portfolio.

Step 6: Try to Work Freelance Part-time

Freelancing is not everyone's cup of tea. The process of selling yourself, selling your services, and dealing with customers can be overwhelming.

If you're not sure if freelancing is the right career path for you, try doing it part-time.

Spend a few hours each day working on smaller independent concerts. And learn how to freelancing.

When you feel ready to tackle larger projects, then you can decide whether you should work full-time independently or leave your daily job.

Step 7: Find the Right Standalone Platform

This step plays a crucial role in how easily you get jobs and the quality of customers you will be able to work with.

One mistake most novice professionals make is searching for the most popular independent market and joining to get started. Like UpWork or Freelancer.com.

These sites are already full of millions of freelancers around the world. And because of the competition, they engage in bidding wars to win jobs. They will constantly lower their prices to get a job. And it won't get you anywhere.

So the best approach and approach that has worked wonders for me is to choose a fairly new market and join it. It will have fewer professionals, so you will have less competition. And it will improve your chances of bidding jobs.

Step 8: Upload the Correct Price

Determining the right price for your services can be a challenge. Because if you ask for the wrong price, customers will never even think about hiring you.

At first, the best way to find out the right price is to look at independent popular markets and see what other professionals in your niche or industry pay.

Since you are new, it is not fair to charge the same prices as experienced professionals.

Instead, you should try to figure out an intermediate point where you can offer a competitive price than those experienced freelancers, without making you look cheap.

Step 9: Submit Your First Proposal

Writing a proposal to a client must be done carefully.

It's not like writing a regular email or writing a post on social media. You need to think seriously and find out how to convince your client to offer you the job instead of all the other independent professionals.

There are some hints and hacks that you can use to your benefit when writing a winning proposal. I can't go into all the details here, so please see the links below for more information on the subject.

Step 10: Deliver Beyond Expectations

Once you get a job, the next step is to make sure you deliver the project exactly as the client requested.

Or, in this case, I want you to exaggerate the work exceeding the client's expectations.
